St Patricks Day in Prague, what a great City to celebrate this Irish traditional holiday. Prague can boast at present seven Irish owned and run Irish bars. All have something special prepared for St Patrick’s Day, as do we, try our Guinness challenge. St Patrick was the patron Saint of Ireland, born in 385 AD and lived as a slave for a period in Ireland. He then escaped his captivity to live in a monastery for 12 years after which he returned to Ireland.
St Patrick established many schools, monasteries and churches in Ireland. He lived the last years of his life in County Down where he died on the 17th March in the year 461. St Patricks Day is celebrated the world over with green being the theme color, green hats, green balloons, and even green beer. Prague`s Irish bars celebrate this day in big style. Prague presently has seven ‘real’ Irish pubs, that is pubs owned and run by Irish people, below is a list and some general information about them.
Prague has seven real Irish Bars:
Caffrey`s Irish Bar, address Old Town Square 10, Prague 1 , on the Old Town Square. This bar is true Irish and it has a great inventive menu also live sports can be viewed here. Close to Caffrey`s bar is the Dubliner, address Tyn 1, Prague 1. Formerly known as Legends it recently underwent major surgery to become a homely Irish pub serving great food and beer.
James Joyce pub formerly Molly Malone`s pub, address U Obecniho dvora 4, Prague 1. It maybe located in a quiet back street of Prague but in reality only 5 minutes walk from Old Town Square, at the moment it is not Irish owned.
In the main area of Prague you will find Rocky OReilley`s Irish Pub, address Stepanska 32, Prague 1. This pub attracts lots of Stag and Hen groups and will be for sure the place to party if crowds is what you are after.
JJ Murphy`s Irish Bar, address Trziste 4, Prague 1. Located across the Charles Bridge in the Mala Strana area of the city. This bar has super food, good service, and a large selection of beers and spirits.
The Irish Times, is quite new and located at Karlova 20, Prague 1. Just off the Charles Bridge in a location with many tourists. It has a front beer garden with heaters for the winter and the live music at the front door attracts many customers.
A new addition is Mc Carthy’s Irish Pub and Disco Bar. Located between Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square at the address Rytirska 10, Prague 1. This pub has everything, good food, service, live sports, live music and a downstairs disco bar, worth a visit.
The newest addition to the list is The Three Fiddles Irish Bar, located in the Mala Strana area of the city, the address is Nerudova 210/12, Prague 1. This is a perfect stop for a cold beer or Guinness if you have been visiting Prague castle or stop in for some lovely fish and chips if you are hungry.
